The Gardens

March 31, 2005 - 5:51 PM

I woke up at 11 yesterday after my alarm went off and got ready to head over to Huntington Gardens in San Marino (right by Pasadena). I normally don't go out and take pictures unless it's an event or a shoot or something, so when I do I guess it's a different experience. It's relaxing, I guess. Traffic was annoying both ways. I ended up getting there at 1:50 because I couldn't find it (directions and signage were horrible) and stayed until 4:30 (that's when it closes).

I don't think I got any outstanding pictures. The thing about Huntington Gardens is that they open at 12:30 and close at 4:30. Anybody who knows anything about light knows that those are the two hardest times to capture good images of nature. The quality of lighting is bad. It's harsh, giving things harsh and unattractive shadows. Despite all of that, I think it was really fun. I didn't get a chance to hit up all the gardens and will probably go back during spring when flowers are actually in bloom (it looked quite dead there when I went).

As for this break, it has been more or less uneventful. hs

finally done..

March 25, 2005 - 3:39 AM

I'm glad to see the quarter finally come to an end. Another chapter finished and another yet to begin. It's this transitionary period that I love the most though.

So, what are we going to do with all this free time? wiggle

I'm so sore...

March 14, 2005 - 10:07 AM

My heart, it aches. Just kidding. tongue

I went to a soccer tournement on Saturday and Sunday and today I feel horrible. rice My legs, arms, and shoulders probably aren't used to it yet (will they ever be used to it?). The sad thing is that after the weekend of 18 hours of work, I have absolutely nothing to show for it. I was shooting soccer for somebody else and because of that, they have all the images. I question whether or not it's worth it to me at all. hs

Yesterday it was freezing cold. We drove up at 6:00 AM (I had to wake up much.. much earlier) and arrived there. It was drizzling and I questioned whether or not my unsealed 20D and 70-210mm f/2.8 could handle it. My answer was probably not, but then I drapped a torn up trash bag over it and battled on. We finished around 4 and got home at 7 (see how it isn't that worth it to me? I don't get paid for those 3 hours hsnono ) Anyway.. I'm tired as hell. I lost the entire weekend doing this shit. ugh

We'll see how much longer I can continue doing this stuff. I'd like the money to buy stuff, but I'm questioning whether or not it's worth it. hs

bad timing

March 8, 2005 - 7:36 PM

My enrollment window finally opened today. I guess it would've been helpful if I remembered, but of course I didn't. I wonder when the classes I had to take filled up. hs The outlook for this quarter was:

CEE11
CEE20
ECON20B
CEE81B
MATH2E

I'm starting to look more and more like a Civil Engineer every quarter, unfortunately for me, CEE20 is waitlisted and all the discussions are full, which means I can't even waitlist the class. Chem 51A isn't being offered this quarter, so it looks like I'm out of luck. frown To compound matters, Famiglietti's 2E class is full (can't waitlist), so I'm going to have to take Kaneda, which isn't so bad except for the fact that his class is at 4-5PM on MWF. rant2

You can't understand a word: heavy Japanese accent. Sometimes doesn't know how to answer questions that students have cause of his limited English. Go to class, do the mock/practice exams and you'll do ok. Grades NOT based on curve!!!

From ratemyprofessor.com leaves me somewhat uneasy about Kaneda. rice We'll see how things turn out. Here is my tentitively put together schedule for this quarter:

CEE11 LECTURE - Tu Th - 9:30-10:50
MATH2E DISCUSSION - Tu Th - 5:00-5:50PM
CEE81A LAB - Th - 11:00-12:50PM

ECON20B LECTURE - M W F - 10:00-10:50
ECON20B DISCUSSION - M - 11:00-11:50
CEE11 DISCUSSION - M - 3:00-3:50PM
MATH2E LECTURE - M W F - 4:00-4:50PM
MAE81A LECTURE - M - 6:00-7:50PM

My Mondays are so packed. frown Then on Wenesday and Fridays I have to stay on campus until 4:50 for Math on MWF and until 6 for Math discussion on TTh ugh The bright side is I have no 8AM classes, the downside is I'm going to be stuck on campus forever on multiple occasions. rice

edit

I think I'm just going to go to Famiglietti's 2E class on MWF at 11:00-11:50 and her discussion. rice If what this ratemyprofessor says is true, I should be able to learn in her class then just do the practice exam and be fine. tear

It's about that time again..

March 7, 2005 - 4:21 PM

Where I disappear from the face of the Earth. 9th week is finally here. For some reason, it feels like it came so quickly. I have my final midterm on Friday (yeah, of 9th week, wtf? ) and then it begins. I probably won't be around much for the next two and a half weeks.. hs I hope you all miss me.

Well, I know you will. wiggle

An organized chaos

March 6, 2005 - 6:02 AM

I'm so tired. This is taking a lot longer than I anticipated or planned. My room is a mess and I can barely walk around. I didn't realize it'd take so much space. rice

Hopefully I can finish tomorrow when I wake up. redface
