one last shoot..

August 26, 2004 - 3:40 AM

My room is a mess. A pile of clothes leaks out of my closet and makes its way into my doorway, blocking the door from shutting all the way. A small stream of light breaks through the crack, illuminating the rest of the mess. In the center of my room lies a small backpack, slung open. Camera gear, lying there. Restless.

I haven't had a shoot in who knows how long. I haven't touched my gear in over a month. I reach down and pull the camera out of it's styrofoam pouch. It feels almost foreign in my hands. Has it been that long? Have I forgotten everything already? I pull the viewfinder up to my eye and tap my "soft" shutter button (its kind of broken..) to power the camera on. It takes 3 seconds. Thats about 3 seconds longer than the new 20D will take to power on.

I want it. I quickly log on to my bank account to check some numbers. No way. The 20D will carry a pricetag of $1,500 dollars. Thats about $1,000 over my range. I shrug it off and try to fabricate ways to make up the money. Sell my gear? Who knows. Who knows whats going to happen.

All I know is that in 3 days, I'll have what I consider to be my last shoot. One last run for my Canon Digital Rebel. I have a wedding this Sunday. I feel so rusty. I'm sure it'll come back to me. Once I hear that shutter slap down. Once I look down, chimping, at a photo I just snapped. Everything will come back to me once I set up those lights with Loc and order people around, telling them to pose in the right way. Everything will be alright..... but...

theres still that bit of uncertainty for the future that lingers. Everyone around me is upgrading and for once, I wish I hadn't been so lazy and got a summer job. Oh well.

The Canon 20D and my future.

August 21, 2004 - 8:24 PM

So Canon finally announced (its official) the 20D, the 10D replacement. This will most likely be my next camera. MSRP$1500US and going to be released Mid-September. I'm excited. I'm finally out growing my Rebel and the price tag on the 20D is 3x less than the 1d mk2. Its going to be exciting. smiles

20d
Canon 20D -- Its black. yum

Yeah anyway. My sleep schedule was all fucked up. I just stayed up a 22-23 hours straight. Going to sleep at 9 so my schedule should be normal again. smiles Life is good.

Reformatting

August 12, 2004 - 11:27 PM

I'll be back later. I'm going to reformat my computer and then install a fresh copy of Windows XP PRO and hit it up with some Windows XP Service Pack 2. I didn't finish my lab today. tear

I'll be back later. Gotta set things up. I'm going to try to set my laptop up and hope it doesn't overheat. If you're wondering where I am, thats where. Later.

The Carpal is BACK!!

August 12, 2004 - 5:14 AM

I've been typing a lot lately... but in the right position. I mean, I sigh upright with my wrists above the keyboard, not resting on anything, but its back. The damn CTS has returned and its destroying my wrists. I lost the right wrist guard thing, so I need to get another one. Its starting send tingly sensations that are close to the feeling of pain, but tickling my nerves at the same time eek . I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm going to go to sleep and hope it goes away. Gotta do my lab tomorrow too.

If you don't know, I'm taking one summer class @ UCI, ECE10. Its a C programming class. Introduction to C. I have 4 lab assignments for tomorrow, but I haven't looked at 'em yet. I hope they're easy. hs

Finally UP UP UP!

August 9, 2004 - 5:14 PM

Piece of shit. I'm starting to get sick and tired of this. Everytime I jump over another hurdle, it seems liek there are more obstacles in the way. I finally moved from neopages, my original host for phidong.com (for almost 3 years) to a new host viux, who I do not recommend. WHY!? WHY!? Because they advertise that they are MT compatable but they don't even have modules to connect to the entry database.. mad

So I'm finally at my new host, made2own, which has been pretty good to me after all. I'm paying for the site now hs so I guess I'll have more incentive to update. I uploaded everything last night and there were some bugs in my coding so I had to redo everything, now I just have to tweek stuff to get it working as planned.

Not too shabby! Not too shabby. smiles Comments are registered members ONLY now. Please register and comment. I was undecided whether or not I wanted to take the extra step and require people to register, but I've just been getting WAY too much spam lately and its becoming unbarable, even with the ability to screen comments. I might turn commenting w/o registered back on, but for now I think this is a better fit. The blog uses a system called typekey which allows you to register at a central station, then log in there, so you can use your login everywhere else that uses typekey (moveable type and some other blogs?). Very coold in my opinion. smiles Just register and comment.. You can use emoticons too, which make it more fun. grin

Downtime

August 7, 2004 - 5:07 AM

The site is probably going to suffer some downtime. I'm switching hosts. Neopages has been a great place to host my site for the last two years, but it seems like I'm outgrowing it. frown

and suddenly, an update

August 6, 2004 - 3:06 AM

Its been a while since I've written in my journal. Its funny. You know when you've been away too long when the calendar on the side bar is linkless. Deep into a new month without any entries. Things are changing though.

Version four.

Version one was a nice orange that made me feel sick after a couple of months. The second version was the same layout with a different color. Three was the longest standing. Orange. VERY ORANGE. Like the first, but with a smoother design. It got sickening. I couldn't update it because I didn't like it. The look of it made me sick.

Version four. Its new. Its different. Its sloppy. We'll see how long it lasts.

I've also made some notable changes. I've updated the version of the script from 2.6 to movabletype version 3.01, which changes the comment system a bit. I now screen comments before they're posted on the site, that way I effectively cut back on all the spam that I've been getting over the past month (over 1100 spam comments)

Still have to redo my gallery and update some stuff there, but for now, enjoy. smiles
