new keyboard (updated pictures)

October 21, 2003 - 3:54 PM

Woot. My new keyboard came in the mail today. Its hooked up right now. It lights up really nicely, the only thing bugging me is that they keys are not dell-like. By this I mean not "clicky" so naturally my wpm times have fallen because of this thing.. but it does look cool so I'll give it that. grin

the money shot

The keyboard is ok .. for now. The backspace key is tiny which is annoying and the spacebar as well as a couple keys seem to be hit and miss... having problems typing and its really annoying :| but it looks bomb as fuck.. so.... i might plug in my other keyboard for typing and leave this here for show

Screw it. I put the keyboard on the ground for decoration behind my tower. The keyboard sucks. Its a novelty item, nothing more. I've used 4 keyboards with this set-up now. Two wireless keyboards, my Dell keyboard, and this illuminated one and none of them can even touch Dell's clicky keys. This 15 dollar keyboard (probably even less) owns all of them.. why? Because I can type 120+ wpm with it. 'Nuff said. :

what do you mean by dell's clicky keys? i'm using a dell keyboard right now, it's not the best that's fasho

The keys are responsive and "click" when you press them. Its a lot better than the other keyboard that didn't even respond to my typing.. :

I'm amazed you didn't bash the mouse pad too. The responsiveness is a real problem, especially if you type fast. The keys are quiet and don't go down far so its hard to tell if you pressed it hard enough, but its probably good to strengthen your finger muscles, god knows how much we need those wink . You've seen more than one keyboard with this god awful set up??? Or do you mean the case? Nice rigtoo bad the blue clash a little. In those pics it looks like you need some wire managment especiall up in the right, but the more i look at it, I think it might just be the angle.

Lol my case is a mess. The IDE cables are hanging because I have 3 hard drives and 3 cd-rom drives so it requires a total of 4 cables since you shouldn't run a HD and CD-ROM device on a single IDE cable.. so its hard to manage .. that and all the power wires end up making it look sloppy.. heh.

I've had 4 different keyboards w/ my computer (current set up).. all end up coming back here.. to my baby.. DELL .. lol

3 cd-roms?!?! Is there any advantage in that?

Also, my case aint that pretty yet, i still need to wrap my power cables, but the most helpful thing I've found so far it to buy short cables for the HDDS. Then again, I use UV reactive stuff, so more that anything I need to keep it for being too cluttered, because otherwise the light doesn't reach everything. Oh and another trick I use (although its kinda obvious) put as many ugly cables as possible behing the drive column and wedge them through the holes when they need to be exposed, they become much less conspicuose.

P.S. Did you etch the plastic yourself? If so, give me some tips.

I'm a lazy type of guy. I bought the case like that and set up the computer myself. I use UV reactive stuff too, but I'm thinking to conserve wattage and only use light from the fans (as it will be all red).

Anyway.. also being lazy my cd-rom drives serve a purpose b/c I'm too lazy to switch out CDs. One if a DVD player, which I thought was necessary and the other two are CD-RWs, but if I ever need to copy cds the 3rd is a must b/c it runs on a different IDE ribbin/cable whatever.. so the data can be transfered two ways. I guess it has its advantages.. and disadvantages. I also had 3 open slots and 2 extra cd-rom drives, so.. wink
